The birthday (tithi puja) of Sri Ramakrishna
was celebrated at Belur Math on Friday, 27 February. Cooked
prasad was served to about 29,000 devotees. Swami Prabhanandaji,
General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission,
presided over the public meeting held in the afternoon.

Ranchi Morabadi centre
celebrated National Youth Day (12 January) with a procession and
a meeting. On 26 January, Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President,
Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated the Divyayan
laboratory building and seed processing plant building at the
centre.





Ranchi Sanatorium centre
celebrated National Youth Day (12 January) with a procession and
a meeting. On 31 January, Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President,
Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated two
renovated buildings at the centre which would be used as the
outdoor block and an extension to the indoor ward of the
hospital.

Dr
Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, inaugurated the
annual function of Raipur centre on 13 January.

Allahabad centre organized
a medical camp, discourses, and an exhibition on Sri Ramakrishna
and Swami Vivekananda at Triveni Sangam on the occasion
of Magh Mela from 9 January to 9 February. About 17,000
patients were treated at the medical camp and nearly 90,000
people witnessed the exhibition.

 Swami
Atmasthanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna
Mission, consecrated the newly built Sri Ramakrishna Temple,
with a marble image of Sri Ramakrishna, at Barisha Math,
Kolkata, on 9 February, the sacred birthday of Swami
Adbhutanandaji. Swami Atmasthanandaji, Swami Smarananandaji,
Swami Prameyanandaji and Swami Prabhanandaji addressed the
public meetings organized on this occasion. In all, about 450
monastics and more than 16,000 devotees attended the function.

A student of Class IX of
Viveknagar (Tripura) school won the National Child Award
for the year 2007 for his commendable performance in
painting. The award, comprising a cash prize of 10,000 rupees,
a silver medal, a certificate and a citation, was handed over to
him at a function held on 5 February at Vigyan Bhavan, New
Delhi.

Viveknagar (Tripura) centre
organized an All Tripura Devotees’ Conference at the Ashrama on
8 February, which was attended by 428 devotees.

The newly built two-storey wing of
Ramharipur school was inaugurated on 9 February.

Students of Shilpamandira
(Self-financing Polytechnic of Saradapitha, Belur)
secured the following ranks in the All Bengal Diploma
Examination held by the West Bengal State Council of Technical
Education in June 2008:
Mechanical Engineering: 1st and 2nd; Electrical Engineering:
1st.


A student of our Chandigarh
students’ home, who represented India in the 40th International
Chemistry Olympiad at Budapest (Hungary) last year, has won
bronze medal at the Olympiad.

Chandigarh centre conducted
a child dental care project in which 371 children of a school in
Pijore (Haryana) were examined and treated.

Swami Nirmalatmanandaji, head of Sao Paulo
(Brazil) centre, reached Belur Math on 12 February on a visit to
India for nearly four weeks.
Swami Amaranandaji, head of
Geneva (Switzerland) centre, arrived at Mumbai on 24
February on a visit to India for about one week.
Swami Bhaskaranandaji returned to Seattle (USA)
after a six-week visit to India.
Telephone
and Fax Numbers: The telephone numbers 243-0699 and 242-3795
of Jamshedpur centre have been changed to 232-0699
and 232-0795 respectively. The Ashrama has got an
additional telephone number 232-0131.
Swamiji’s House, Kolkata, has discontinued its phone-cum-fax
number 2219-2030 and has got a new fax number 2257-1182.

We
are sorry to announce the passing away of two of our
brother-monks during this month.
Swami
Videhanandaji (Jagannath Maharaj) passed away on 1 February
at 9.25 pm at Seva Pratishthan, Kolkata, owing to chronic renal
failure. He was 58 and had been suffering from diabetes and
kidney problem for some years. Initiated by Swami
Vireshwaranandaji, he joined the Order at Kamarpukur centre in
1976 and had Sannyasa from Swami Gambhiranandaji in 1986.
Besides his joining centre, he served at Saradapitha (Belur) and
Belur Math Dispensary. His health had been deteriorating for
the past few months and the end came rather suddenly. The Swami
was loved by all for his simple and jovial nature.
Swami
Avyayanandaji (Subramaniam Maharaj) passed away at Seva
Pratishthan on 17 February at 2 am owing to pneumonia with
sepsis in a case of cardiomyopathy. He was 92 and had been
suffering from various old-age ailments for several years. An
initiated disciple of Swami Virajanandaji, he joined the Order
in 1943 at Kanchipuram centre and had Sannyasa from Swami
Shankaranandaji in 1952. Besides his joining centre, he served
at Coimbatore Mission Vidyalaya and the Colombo (Sri Lanka)
centre. He was the head of Kanchipuram centre for 16 years. He
had been leading a retired life for the last 16 years during
which period he stayed at Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Belur
Math. The Swami was austere and quiet by nature.
