A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India, visited
Bangalore Math on 31 May and released the book A Concise
Encyclopaedia of Hinduism (in three volumes, by Swami
Harshananda). Swami Prabhanandaji, General Secretary,
Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, presided over the
function.

Nattarampalli
centre organized a function from 2 to 4 May to mark its centenary.
Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math &
Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated the newly built extension to
the school building on 2 May. A teachers’ convention, a
farmers’ convention and cultural programmes formed part of the
three-day function.

A student of Class IV of our Viveknagar Vidyalaya,
namely Tirtharaj Dhar, secured the 7th all-India rank in the National Level
Science Talent Search Examination conducted by Unified Council. The
Council adjudged the Vidyalaya as the ‘Best Participation School’.

Students of Viveknagar Vidyalaya secured the following state
ranks (within the first ten) in the State Level National Talent
Search Examination, 2007, conducted for Class VIII and Class X
students:
Class VIII: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 9th,
Class X: 5th, 7th, 10th.



Belgaum
centre conducted a month-long summer camp from 11 April to 13
May for boys in the age group 10-16. The programme
included Vedic chanting, yogasanas, meditation, and classes on
art and culture. In all, 135 boys took part in the camp.

Thrissur Math conducted a week-long summer camp from 21 to
27 April for students in the age group 10-15. Altogether
202 students participated in the camp.



Hyderabad
Math conducted a month-long summer camp for children from
27 April to 24 May. Children were taught yogasanas,
prayers, bhajans, Vedic chanting, Gita chanting and moral
stories from great lives and epics. In all, 1120 children
took part in the camp.

Viveknagar
(Agartala) centre organized an All-Tripura devotees’ conference
at the Ashrama on 30 March, which was attended by 636 delegates.

The newly set up bookstall of Delhi centre at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway
Station was inaugurated on 5 May.



The newly constructed buildings for monks’ quarters and
dispensary at Kochi centre were inaugurated on 7 May.

Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, laid
the foundation stone for the proposed Vivekananda Vidya Niketan
(upper primary school) building at the new campus of Kadapa
Mission centre on 22 May.

Vivekananda University has been sanctioned full membership
of Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), a
global network of innovative institutions devoted to social
commitment in higher education, set up by UNESCO, the United
Nations University, and the Technical University of Catalonia
(Barcelona, Spain), where the GUNI Secretariat is based.

A student of
Chandigarh students’ home, namely Anupam Dev Goyal, has been selected by
Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai, to
represent India with three other students in the International
Chemistry Olympiad to be held in Budapest (Hungary) this year.

The National Olympiad Foundation, New Delhi, judged Purulia
Vidyapith as the ‘Best Performing School’ in West Bengal at the
Mathematics Olympiad Test, 2007, held at the international
level. A class VII student of the Vidyapith, namely
Digantanil Giri, secured the 1st position in his group in the
state, and the 44th rank at the international level.

BSc (Honours) students of Narendrapur college achieved
excellent results at the
Joint Admission test to MSc (JAM) in the various Indian
Institutes of Technology (IITs). The all-India ranks
secured (within the first ten) are given below.
