The ashrama was started in 1927 and made a branch centre in 1929.
Activities:
- A higher secondary school (class 5 to 12).
- A junior basic school (class 1 to 5).
- A pre-primary school.
- A gurukula (hostel).
- A publication department, including a press, with 291 titles.
- Publication of Prabuddha Keralam, a Malayalam monthly.
- Welfare activities: Providing pecuniary & educational aid.
- Religious activities: Daily worship and bhajans, regular religious classes, and celebration of popular festivals and the birth anniversaries of the Holy Trio & other spiritual luminaries.
Activities at Punkunnam sub-centre (situated 7 km from the main centre): A public library; Sanskrit & Ramayana classes, religious discourses and celebration of major festivals.
