The centre was established in 1927.

Activities:

1. A publication department with a total of 286 Gujarati titles in circulation, and a Gujarati monthly, Sri Ramakrishna Jyot (37th year).
2. An allopathy-cum-homeopathy dispensary with physiotherapy department , a cerebral palsy rehabilitation centre, and an eye care centre.
3. Three eye camps and one medical camp.
4. A mobile medical unit serving rural people.
5. A coaching centre.
6. A students’ home.
7. A vocational training centre providing training in computer operations, tailoring, embroidery, and spoken English.
8. Four Balak Sangha units.
9. A public library with 39,559 books and 67 periodicals.
10. A cultural unit named Vivekananda Institute of Value Education and Culture (VIVEC), which conducted career guidance seminars, values education classes, competitions for students and teachers, a Sanskrit speaking course, etc. Its children’s wing, Vivekananda Children’s Library and Development Centre conducts weekly classes and programmes on values education.
11. Welfare activities: Distribution of ration kits and winter garments.
