This educational centre was formally inaugurated on 4 July 2005. Declared as a Deemed-to-be-University by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, the RKMVERI has its main campus and head office at Belur. It runs academic programmes on its main campus as well as at its off-campus centres located at the Ramakrishna Mission centres in Coimbatore, Narendrapur, Ranchi (Morabadi) and Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre in Kolkata.

RKMVERI offers courses on the following five ‘thrust areas’: a. Mathematical Sciences, Indian Heritage, Sports Science & Yoga – Belur main campus b. Disability Management and Special Education, General and Adapted Physical Education and Yoga, Agriculture & Rural Development -Coimbatore Campus c. Agriculture, Integrated Rural & Tribal Development and Management – Ranchi Campus d. Agriculture, Integrated Rural Development and Management, Environment & Disaster Management, Agricultural Biotechnology, and Medical Biotechnology – Narendrapur Campus e. Indian Spiritual Heritage including Value Education – Kolkata Campus (Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre)

Activities:

1. Belur main campus: a. Courses offered: i. Two-year MSc in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Big Data Analytics, Yoga, and Sports Science. ii. Three/Four-year PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Sanskrit & Philosophy, Yoga and Sports Science. iii. Five-year (4-year BA Hons+1-year MA) Integrated MA in Sanskrit. iv. Five-year (3-year BA Hons+2-year MA) Integrated MA in Sanskrit. v. Two-year MA in Sanskrit. vi. Six-month certificate courses in Communicative Sanskrit, LaghusiddhāntakaumudĪ, Siddhanta Kaumudi, Sanskrit Adhyayana-1 and Samskrita-Shastradhyana-1. vii. Two-year certificate courses in Indian Spiritual Heritage, Yoga and Naturopathy, Vedanta, Ramakrishna-Sarada-Vivekananda literature and other ancient scriptures. b. Two students’ hostels. c. A central library and four departmental libraries. d. A publication department. e. Vivekdisha: ICT-based network for online classes and training. f. Research & Development: Departments undertook various R&D projects with Government bodies and research institutes. Notably, a 3D scanning project for heritage buildings by the Centre for AIoT and MR.

2. Coimbatore Mission off-campus centre: a. Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE): i. BEd and MEd in Special Education in 3 streams (VI, HI, ID). ii. Integrated BEd-MEd in ID. iii. PhD in Special Education. iv. Diploma in Indian Sign Language and Interpretation. Research projects from ICSSR and IKS.

b. Faculty of General and Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (FGAPEY): i. BSc (PHS), BPEd, MPEd, PhD in Physical Education. ii. Diploma and certificate courses in Special Olympics, Adapted Physical Education, and Yoga. Research project by Department of Technology.

c. Faculty of Agriculture, Rural and Tribal Development (FARTD): i. Integrated MSc and MA/MSc in Rural and Tribal Development.

d. Faculty of Computer Science Applications and Research (FCSAR): Integrated MSc course. e. Students’ hostels. f. A central library.

3. Narendrapur off-campus centre: a. Faculty of Agriculture and Rural Development (FARD): i. MSc and PhD in AgBT, MdBT, ARD, GPB, Agronomy, and Environment & Disaster Management. ii. Diploma in Integrated Agriculture, PG Diploma in Post Harvest and Food Technology. R&D projects funded by ICAR, DST, DBT, ICSSR, Govt. of WB, IRRI, and CSIRO. b. A vocational training unit under Lokasiksha Parishad. c. A library.

4. Ranchi (Morabadi) off-campus centre: a. Faculty of Agriculture, Rural and Tribal Development (FARTD): i. PhD in Agricultural disciplines. ii. Integrated MSc, MSc, MA/MSc in Agriculture and Rural Development. iii. PG Diploma in Rural Development Practices. iv. BSc (Hons) in Agriculture, BVoc in Sustainable Agriculture. v. Diploma in Organic Farming, certificate course in Agriculture. R&D projects by DST, ICSSR, Tribal Welfare Research Institute. b. A library. c. Skill development training in association with Divyayan.

5. Kolkata off-campus centre (Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre): a. Certificate course in yoga. b. Online certificate course in Communicative Sanskrit.

6. Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs): a. Sasya Shyamala KVK (Narendrapur): 132 training programmes. b. Dhaanyaganga KVK (Sargachhi): 223 training programmes.

7. Religious activities: Religious lectures and celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio and other spiritual luminaries.
