Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Vrindaban

The Mission centre was started in 1907.

Activities of the Mission centre:

  • A 320-bed hospital with the departments and facilities of general medicine, general & laparoscopic surgery, CTVS unit, gynaecology & obstetrics, paediatrics, urology, cardiology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, oncology with 2 operation theatres, neurology, advanced cath lab, 32-slice CT scan, MRI scan, dermatology, dentistry, ultrasonography, operation theatre complex with six operation theatres, dialysis, physiotherapy, ayurveda, homeopathy, blood bank, ICU, NICU, emergency, pharmacy and other diagnostic facilities.
  • An outpatient department that treated and provided consultation to.
  • An emergency department.
  • Rural healthcare project, through which (a) a mobile medical unit, and (b) Eye camps were conducted in nearby villages.
  • Two units of Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa.
  • A residential school of nursing offering GNM courses.
  • Welfare activities: Monthly distribution of ration kits and other necessities to 1600 widow mothers, and providing clothes, blankets, winter garments and pecuniary, educational and medical aid.

The Math centre was started in 1965.

Activities of the Math Centre:

  • A public library.
  • Welfare activities: Distribution of food and other necessary articles of daily use to sadhus, widowed mothers and others.
  • Daily worship, bhajans, fortnightly Ramnam and Shyamnam Sankirtan, lectures, spiritual retreats, etc and celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio as also major religious festivals.

Ma Sarada Kutir: This house, situated 2 km away from the centre, was earlier known as Kalababu’s Kunj and belonged to the family of Sri Balaram Basu, a chief lay disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi stayed in this house for a year after the passing away of Sri Ramakrishna. It is also sanctified by the stay of almost all monastic disciples of Sri Ramakrishna. The Sevashrama had its humble beginning here with a small homoeopathic dispensary in 1907.

This house has a shrine and a permanent exhibition on the Holy Trio.
