This is to make known to our devotees, friends, admirers and viewers that the following information/photos / audio clips, which have been viral on social media for the past few days, have no connection with the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission or their monks:

Fake news 1

Two photos showing a few beds and a few monks with a caption stating that a Covid care facility has been opened on Belur Math premises.

Our clarification

No such facility has been started at Belur Math. But our hospitals in Kolkata (Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan), Kankhal (Hardwar), Dehradun, Varanasi, Vrindaban and Mumbai are engaged in the service of Covid patients for quite some time.

After seeing these photos, many of our well-wishers have expressed their wish to contribute to our medical services for Covid patients. We request them to send their contribution to the Headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission through our website <donations.belurmath.org>. We will apportion the donations received to our hospital centres. We are not able to accept donations from foreign citizens for Covid-19 Relief.

Fake news 2

An audio speech on the present pandemic along with a message claiming the speaker to be “Joydip Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission”.

Our clarification

The speech is not by any monk of the Ramakrishna Math or Ramakrishna Mission.  The so-called “Joydip Maharaj” is not a monk of our Order and never was he so.

Fake news 3

A Sanskrit hymn composed in the context of the pandemic and circulated as being chanted by Swami Smarananandaji, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.

Our clarification

No such hymn has been composed or chanted by Revered Smarananandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, or by any other monk of our Order.

Fake news 4

Ramakrishna Mission has promised the state government that it will take full responsibility of children in the age group of 6 to 14 who have lost their father or other earning members in their family due to Covid-19.

Our clarification

The Ramakrishna Mission has not made any such promise.

PRESS RELEASE

Reopening of our centres, including Belur Math, for visitors

Pursuant to and in compliance with the various lockdown measures undertaken by both the Central and State Governments through Orders, Advisories and Guidelines, the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission had closed all its centers, including its Headquarters at Belur Math to the public on and from 24th March, 2020. By an order dated 30th May 2020 passed by the Union Home Secretary, Government of India, Religious places / places of worship for public have been permitted to reopen on and from 8th June 2020 with certain conditions to be laid down by the Central Government. The State Government, meanwhile, has already laid down certain conditions for reopening. The easing down of the lockdown measures, by no means, indicate a return to normalcy as the threat of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 continues to persist. We understand that visitors/devotees are eager to resume their visits to and pay respects physically at the Holy Shrines of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ma Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda at Belur Math and also to our centers spread across the country. Simultaneously it is of paramount importance to ensure that such visits, which will mean presence of multiple persons at one place, do not pose a threat to the visitors' health and well-being. We believe that the cultivation of spirituality and scientific temper must go hand in hand. Therefore, it is imperative for us to consult experts and put in place adequate infrastructure and equipment to secure the safety of visitors before reopening our centres, including Belur Math. As we are still in the process of making the necessary arrangements, all centers of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, including Belur Math, shall continue to remain closed for the time being and shall reopen for visitors on and from 15th June, 2020. Visiting hours for the devotees/visitors coming to Belur Math and the precautions required to be adopted by all shall be intimated in due course of time. We request all devotees/admirers/friends/pilgrims/visitors to kindly bear with us and cooperate accordingly. With prayers to the Lord for the safety and well-being of all people.   Swami Suvirananda General Secretary Belur Math Date: 1 June 2020

Important clarification regarding WhatsApp messages seeking funds to Belur Math

11.5.2020

Dear Friends and Devotees,

This is regarding one or two WhatsApp messages seeking funds for Belur Math that are making the rounds among the circle of our devotees and friends for the past few days.

In the first place, Belur Math authorities never sent those WhatsApp messages. Neither do we know who has circulated these messages. The messages contain a few factual errors and some expressions which may hurt the feelings of our devotees and friends. We are sorry therefore that these messages got circulated so widely and have caused confusion among our well-wishers.

But it is true that owing to the restrictions of lockdown, which have been in place for more than a month and a half, the inflow of donations to Belur Math has gone down drastically. This is naturally causing difficulties in running the day-to-day activities of this large Math. We request you to help us in this trying period by making contribution to whatever extent possible for you. Some of our Vedanta Centres in the West, including the Vedanta Society of New York, headed by Swami Sarvapriyananda, are also trying to help Belur Math by making appeals to their circle of devotees. Instructions for making donations are available on our website <donations.belurmath.org>.

We may also remind you that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is still raging in India and in many other parts of the world. So, please take sufficient care to remain safe.

May Sri Thakur, Sri Ma and Swamiji Maharaj shower their blessings on you is our earnest prayer to them!

With best wishes,

Yours in Sri Ramakrishna,

Swami Suvirananda
