This centre of the Ramakrishna Math was started on a hillock at Nettayam, 9 km from the Thiruvananthapuram town, in 1916. The focus of activities later moved to the city centre at Sasthamangalam.
Activities of the town centre:
- A 300-bed hospital with the following departments: emergency & casualty services, blood bank, diagnostic radiology centre, laboratory, ICU, NICU, labor room, operation theatres, gynaecology & obstetrics, dialysis unit, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, general medicine, urology, cardiology, psychiatry, laparoscopic & general surgery, orthopaedics, physical medicine, physiotherapy, pulmonology, gastroenterology, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry along with alternative medicine departments like homeopathy, ayurveda and kalari (ayurveda physiotherapy).
- Blood donation camps.
- A college of nursing offering BSc Nursing course.
- A paramedical institute offering 4 courses.
- Three hostels.
- A public library.
- Four units of Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa.
- Health awareness camps.
- Publication of a few books (7 titles in Sanskrit, Malayalam and English in circulation).
- Welfare activities: Providing food, hygiene kits, blankets, winter garments and pecuniary and medical aid.
- Religious activities: Daily worship, religious lectures, spiritual retreats, and celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio and major religious festivals.
