Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Mumbai

The Math centre was started in 1923.

Activities of the Math centre:

  1. Daily worship and bhajans, and fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan.
  2. Celebration of Kali Puja, Ganesh Puja, Durga Puja and so on, and the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other religious personages.
  3. Religious classes in the ashrama and elsewhere.
  4. Spiritual retreats for devotees, cultural competitions for students, youth conventions, and workshops on values education for teachers.

The Mission centre was founded in 1932.

Activities of the Mission centre:

  1. A 70-bed hospital.
  2. Eye camps, blood donation camps and skin treatment camps.
  3. A library and a reading room with 44,786 books and 120 periodicals and newspapers.
  4. A rural development project at Sakwar, a village 86 km away, with the following activities:
    • A dispensary for tribals
    • A vocational training centre for training in automobile mechanic, carpentry, community health worker, driving-cummechanic, electrical wiring, tailoring, welding, computer operations and construction-supervising.
    • An agricultural demonstration farm.
    • A library
    • A balawadi (crèche)
    • Doling out rice and providing food.
