Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Contai

Ramakrishna Sevashrama was started in Contai city in 1913 and moved to its present location in 1923. The Ramakrishna Mission took over the Sevashrama in 1928 and renamed it Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama. The Ramakrishna Ashrama in Contai was taken over by the Math in 1937 and renamed Ramakrishna Math.
Activities of the Math centre:

1. Daily worship and fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan.
2. Regular classes, spiritual retreats and lectures.
3. Celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio and other major festivals.

Activities of the Mission centre:

1. An allopathic-cum-homeopathic dispensary.
2. Seven mobile dispensaries.
3. A students’ home.
4. A unit of Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa.
5. Four coaching centres for rural students.
6. A public library with books and periodicals.
7. Welfare activities: Providing pecuniary and educational aid.
