Ramakrishna Math, Baghbazar

Started in 1899 and later moved to its present home in the year 1908, this centre is also known as Mother’s House since it served as the residence of the Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi whenever she visited Kolkata.

Activities:

  • Publication of books in Bengali: total number of titles: 552.
  • Publication of the Bengali monthly Udbodhan.
  • A public library.
  • A dispensary, with a pathology centre and a physiotherapy department, that treated general patients and TB patients.
  • A mobile medical unit.
  • A coaching centre.
  • A skill development-cum-self-employment centre offered the following training courses:
    • (a) Basic computer operations, (b) beauty & wellness, (c) AC & refrigerator technician, (d) phlebotomy technician training, (e) general duty assistant, (f) hand batik/fabric paint, (g) sewing machine operator, (h) employability enhancement, (i) medical lab technology.
  • Religious activities: Daily worship, Ramnam Sankirtan on Ekadashi days, scriptural classes, spiritual discourses and occasional spiritual retreats.
  • Celebration of major religious festivals and the birthdays of the Holy Trio, Swami Saradananda (a monastic disciple of Sri Ramakrishna) and other religious prophets.
  • Welfare activities: Distribution of food, ration kits, milk, clothes, winter garments, and providing pecuniary, medical & educational assistance.
