An Ashrama bearing the name ‘Balaram Mandir’ was started in 1922 in the house of Sri Balaram Basu, a chief lay disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. The place has been sanctified by numerous visits of Sri Ramakrishna, his disciples, and Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi. It was here that Swami Vivekananda inaugurated Ramakrishna Mission Association on 1 May 1897. Balram Mandir was made a branch of the Ramakrishna Math in 2002.

Activities:

  • An exhibition on Sri Ramakrishna.
  • Religious activities: Daily worship, bhajans, fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan, and monthly Shyamnam Sankirtan.
  • Celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio and Sri Balaram  Basu, Rath Yatra, and Ramakrishna Mission Foundation Day (1 May).
  • Welfare activities: Clothes and winter garments were distributed, and educational and pecuniary aid.
