This centre stands on the very place where the monastic disciples of Sri Ramakrishna set up their first monastery in 1886 and lived there for a few years. In 1973 some devotees started the Baranagar Math Sanrakshan Samity here, which was subsequently taken over by the Ramakrishna Math in 2001. The centre is since then known as ‘Ramakrishna Math.’
