The ashrama was started in 1927 and made a branch centre in 1929.
Activities:

  1. A higher secondary school (class 5 to 12).

  2. A junior basic school (class 1 to 4).

  3. A pre-primary school.

  4. A gurukula (hostel).

  5. A publication department, including a press, which brought out 33 reprints and 8 new titles in Malayalam; total number of titles: 299.

  6. Publication of Prabuddha Keralam, a Malayalam monthly (110th year, 5248 subscribers).

  7. Welfare activities: Providing pecuniary & educational aid.

  8. Religious activities: Daily worship and bhajans, regular religious classes, and celebration of popular festivals and the birth anniversaries of the Holy Trio & other spiritual luminaries.

Activities at Punkunnam sub-centre (situated 7 km from the main centre):
A public library with 7050 books; religious discourses and celebration of major festivals.
