The ashrama was started in 1927 and made a branch centre in 1929.

Activities:

  • A higher secondary school (class 5 to 12).
  • A junior basic school (class 1 to 5).
  • A pre-primary school.
  • A gurukula (hostel).
  • A publication department, including a press, with 291 titles.
  • Publication of Prabuddha Keralam, a Malayalam monthly.
  • Welfare activities: Providing pecuniary & educational aid.
  • Religious activities: Daily worship and bhajans, regular religious classes, and celebration of popular festivals and the birth anniversaries of the Holy Trio & other spiritual luminaries.

Activities at Punkunnam sub-centre (situated 7 km from the main centre): A public library; Sanskrit & Ramayana classes, religious discourses and celebration of major festivals.
