The ashrama was started in 1927 and made a branch centre in 1929.

Activities:

  1. A higher secondary school (class 5 to 12).

  2. A junior basic school (class 1 to 4).

  3. A gurukula (hostel).

  4. A publication department, including a press, which brought out booksin Malayalam; total number of titles: 312.

  5. Publication of Prabuddha Keralam, a Malayalam monthly (111th year).

  6. Welfare activities: Providing pecuniary & educational aid.

Activities at Punkunnam sub-centre (situated 7 km from the main centre): A public library.
