Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sohra (Cherrapunjee)

This branch centre was started in 1931.

Activities:

1. Five higher secondary schools (including schools from nursery to class 11/12 and one from class 4 to 12).

2. Seventeen secondary schools (ranging from nursery to class 9/10).

3. Twelve middle schools (offering various combinations of class 6 to 8).

4. Twenty-eight lower primary schools (from class 1 to 2/3/5).

5. Pre-nursery/KG sections across several schools.

6. Two students’ homes for boys.

7. A computer training centre.

8. Two technical schools for training in weaving and tailoring.

9. A dispensary serving rural patients.

10. Two mobile medical units providing medical services in rural areas.

11. Two museums depicting tribal culture of the north-eastern states.

12. Four milk feeding centres serving the local community.

13. Religious activities: Celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio and other religious and local festivals at the ashrama and its sub-centres.

Sub-centres:

Shella Sub-centre: Located about 50 km away from Sohra, this ashrama was started in 1924.
