Ramakrishna Mission, Malliankaranai

The ashrama was started as a sub-centre of Chennai Students’ Home in 1932 and made a full-fledged centre in 2000.

Activities:

  1. A secondary school with 139 boys and 94 girls. Apart from free coaching, 80 girls were given free training in tailoring and 98 boys were given free training in basic computer operations.
  2. An elementary school with 48 boys and 57 girls.
  3. A hostel with 11 boys.
  4. A library with 3920 books and 14 newspapers and periodicals.
  5. The centre distributed school uniforms to 88 children and conducted free tuition classes to 64 children in a nearby village.
  6. Religious activities included celebration of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, as also other religious festivals.
