Started in 1941, this centre runs several institutions.


  • Vidyamandira is a residential autonomus degree college of arts and science offering 13 undergraduate honours courses including two applied subjects, viz. computer science and industrial chemistry. Besides, four postgraduate courses (Sanskrit, Bengali, Mathematics and Applied Chemistry) are also taught in the college. Total 642 students were on roll in the year. It has a library with 62,111 books. The college also runs a research centre offering M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes.
  • Sikshanamandira is a residential postgraduate autonomous college of teacher education with 353 students. Its library had 28,594 books.
  • Shilpamandira is a polytechnic, providing three-year diploma courses in civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronics & telecommunication engineering. It had 676 students this year. Its library had 25,762 books. The community polytechnic attached to it trained 553 students in different trades. It also runs a computer training centre with 2083 students in different courses.
  • Shilpayatana has two divisions:
    • industrial training institute (79 students) affiliated to National Council for Vocational Training, and
    • a vocational training centre running higher secondary (vocational) course affiliated to West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (79 students).
  • Shilpavidyalaya is a technical institute affiliated to NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training), providing training courses in draughtsmanship (civil and mechanical), electrical works and electronics. It also runs non-affiliated one-year courses in electronics, electrical and plumbing and sanitation trades. It had 193 students on roll this year.
  • Samaj Sevak Sikshanamandira, a residential agro-based training centre for educating and training unemployed rural youths in various trades and rural development activities. 2814 youths were trained through 109 training programmes during the year. The institute has entered into a tie-up with NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) and United Bank of India to function as a Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI). 30 students were trained through Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme (REDP) this year.
  • Janasikshamandira, the unit working for the welfare and uplift of rural population, conducted the following:
    • Educational activities:
      • Need-based vocational and technical training courses such as TV repairing, carpentry, book-binding, etc for poor youths and inmates of correctional homes (542 trained this year),
      • 12 non-formal education centres for 324 non-school-going and dropout children,
      • One adult education centre (with 25 women),
      • three free coaching centres (with 97 students), and
      • a library with 27,047 books;
    • Health and Hygiene activities:
      • conducted 52 free eye and general medical camps (3724 patients treated) and
      • constructed 30 low-cost toilets;
    • Village-level workers’ training centre for youths and children (2703 members benefited).
  • The production and publication department serves as a small training wing to impart training to some unemployed youths. There is a sales section for the various items produced in this department as well as literature published by different centres and also metal stands and photo-folders.
  • Tattwamandira is the central unit, where religious classes for the public and scriptural classes for the monastic members are held regularly, and Jagaddhatri Puja is performed every year.
  • Welfare work was carried out by the way of providing educational help, medical help and installation of a drinking water plant at a school in Nadia district.
  • A permanent audio-visual / multimedia exhibition Vivek Darshan on Swami Vivekananda.
