At the behest of the Govt. of West Bengal, the Ramakrishna Mission has adopted the management and administration of a School viz. Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Jhargram, vide execution of a Memorandum of Agreement on 5th January 2016. This co-educational Residential School is entirely meant for the tribes and all the students are 1st generation learners. Presently there are 358 students out of which almost 50% are girl students. The school is well equipped with the utmost modern laboratories of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Two Computer Laboratories, one library cum reading room (with 4588 nos. of books, 253 Santali Titles, 16 Educational Journals, 8 General journals, 6 daily newspapers, 168 DVD/CDs and 38 nos. of Puzzle Games and Quiz Cards).

During last couple of years, the School has bagged lots of awards and appreciations from various quarters and from the Govt. of West Bengal as well. Having seen the outstanding development of the School, the Tribal Development Dept., Govt of West Bengal has considered this School as the Model School for the Tribal Students in the State.

Centering this very school, a branch centre of the Ramakrishna Mission, viz. Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jhargram has come to an existence on 20.08.2017. Of late the Govt. of West Bengal has allotted another five Acres of land adjacent to the present EMRS campus (presently situated on a piece of land of 5 Acres) on lease.

Activities :

During last one year, apart from running the School the centre rendered regular Welfare Services, conducted Relief Operations, Value Education Programmes, Spiritual Retreats, Religious Discourses for the people of all walks of life.

The centre observed birthdays of Sri Sri Thakur, Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda. National Youth Day was observed through bringing a procession out of about 5000 participants.

In collaboration with the Jhargram Municipality, the Centre had managed to installed a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda at the entrance of the Jhargram town.

The Centre organised Science Camps and Motivational Camps for the students and teachers of various institutions of Jungle Mahal.

The Centre is scheduled to take up the following activities/project in the new Campus :

  • Skill Development Project, Non-Formal School, Free Coaching Centre
  • Computer Centre, Mobile Medical Services,
  • Centre for Value Education and Retreat, Day School for the Boys
