Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Belur

This multi-campus University, founded under the aegis of Ramakrishna Mission, was formally inaugurated on 4 July 2005. Declared as Deemed-to-be-University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, the RKMVERI has its main campus and head office at Belur. It runs academic programmes on its main campus as well as at its approved ‘Off-Campus’ centres located at the Ramakrishna Mission Centres in Coimbatore, Narendrapur and Ranchi (Morabadi). It was awarded A++ grade in the first cycle of NAAC accreditation in 2019.

RKMVERI conducts its academic programmes on the following five ‘thrust areas’ :

a. Disability management and special education.
b. Agriculture and integrated rural and tribal development.
c. Indian spiritual and cultural heritage including value education.
d. Environment and disaster management.
e. Fundamental science education and research.


  1. On Belur main campus:
    1. Courses offered:
      1. Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Big Data Analytics.
      2. M.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Big Data Analytics, Yoga and Sports Science.
      3. Integrated M.Phil., Ph.D. and 5-year integrated M.A. courses in Sanskrit Studies.
      4. Certificate courses in Sanskrit (Preliminary, Intermediate and  Advanced), Yoga, Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, Patanjali Yogasutras, Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, etc.
    2. Two students’ hostel.
    3. A central library with 38,165 books and 53 periodicals and newspapers and four departmental libraries.
    4. A publication department; the total number of titles published: 41.
    5. Vivekdisha is an information and communication technology (ICT)–based network that conducts online classes from secondary to undergraduate level, online teachers’ training etc.

  2. On Coimbatore Mission off-campus:
    1. Courses under the Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE):
      1. B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil., Ph.D. and  diploma  courses  in Special Education (hearing impairment, visual impairment and mental retardation);
      2. Diploma in Sign Language;
      3. Certificate course in Theatre Arts and Holistic development (CTAHD) — interdisciplinary part-time course;
      4. Certificate course in Assistive Technology (CCAT) for people with disabilities — interdisciplinary part-time course.
    2. Courses under the Faculty of General and Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (FGAPEY):
      1. D.P.Ed., B.P.Ed., B.Sc., M.P.Ed., M.Phil., Ph.D. and Certificate courses in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education;
      2. Diploma courses in Special Olympics, Fitness, Yoga, etc.
    3. The Faculty of Agricultural Education and Research (FAR) which conducts a four-year B.Sc. course in agriculture.
    4. Students’ hostels for boys and girls.
    5. A central library with 16,800 books, 67 periodicals and newspapers.
  3. On Narendrapur off-campus:
    1. Courses under the Faculty of Integrated Rural Development and Management (IRDM):
      1. M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agriculture and Rural Development (ARD);
      2. M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agro-based Biotechnology (AgBT);

    3. A vocational training unit under Lokshiksha Parishad to provide skill development training to youths.
  4. On Ranchi (Morabadi) off-campus:
    1. Courses under the Faculty of Integrated Rural and Tribal Development and Management (IRTDM):

    4. Skill development training programmes in association with Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra to provide Skill Development training to rural tribal youth.
  5. Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs):
    a. Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra (under Narendrapur centre), at Arapanch village in South 24 Parganas district, which conducts training programmes for farmers and rural youth.
    b. Dhanyaganga Krishi Vigyan Kendra (under Sargachhi centre) which conducts different training programmes for farmers and rural youth.
  6. A research centre at Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre (Kolkata) branch.
  7. Religious classes at Ramakrishna Math Swami Trigunatitananda Memorial in Kolkata.
