Vivekananda Vedanta Society, Chicago, USA

Founded in 1930, this Society is an affiliate of the Ramakrishna Math. It was moved to its present home at Homer Glen in 2008. Swami Ishatmananda is its Minister-in-charge.

Activities:

  • Daily worship, monthly Ramnam Sankirtan and annual spiritual retreat.
  • Sunday services and weekly scripture classes.
  • Celebration of the birthdays of the Holy Trio and other religious festivals.
  • A library with over 2000 books, and a bookstore.
  • Publication of  books  and  a  quarterly  online  magazine Chicago Calling.
  • An exhibition on Swami Vivekananda in Chicago.
  • Regular spiritual counselling, and lectures in Chicago and other cities in America and Canada.

Sub-centres:

A. Home of Harmony, Chicago: The sub-centre was inaugurated in 2022.

Activities:

  • School of the World Religions: Online course on Hinduism and interfaith meetings.
  • Intrafaith talks and music by representatives of different religions on Saturdays.
  • Weekly yoga classes.
  • A bookstore.
  • A meditation hall and a multipurpose hall.

B. Vivekananda Retreat, Ganges, Michigan: Spread over 100 acres, this retreat facility was established in 1971.

Activities:

  • Daily worship and Sunday services.
  • A library with 2000 books.
  • A bookstore.
  • An online spiritual retreat with the participation of 80 devotees.
  • Retreat facilities for about 90 spiritual aspirants.
  • A museum on Indian culture.
  • A shrine trail with shrines for all major religions.
