The centre was started in 1931.

Activities of the Mission centre :

  1. A higher secondary school with 452 boys and 357 girls.

  1. A small vocational school for teaching weaving, tailoring and knitting.

  1. A hostel with 115 boys.

  1. A mobile audio-visual unit.

  1. A charitable dispensary (13,518 patients treated) and two mobile medical units (16,415 patients treated). 

  1. Two libraries with attached reading room had 21,371 books and 22 periodicals
    and newspapers.

  1. A museum depicting tribal culture.

  1. A bakery, a dairy and a printing press.

  1. Welfare work by way of distributing milk, blankets, clothes, bee boxes, honey tool kits, etc to the poor in various remote villages.

  1. Celebration of the birthdays of religious personalities.

    Sohbar sub-centre (Sohbarpunjee, PIN 793108) : This sub-centre,
    about 18 km down Cherrapunjee, was started in 1928.
    Activities at Sohbar sub-centre:
    1. A lower and an upper primary school, and a secondary school with 134 boys and 159 girls.
    2. A vocational training centre (weaving).
    3. Two hostels with 42 tribal boys and girls.

    Shella sub-centre (Disong Shella Village, P.O. Shella Bazar, PIN 793112):
    This sub-centre was started in 1924.
    Activities at Shella sub-centre:
    1. A lower and an upper primary school and a secondary school with 
       186 boys and 173 girls. 
    2. A small library
    3. Celebration of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri
       Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda, as also Durga Puja, Kali Puja, etc.
     
       The centre also runs similar schools at other places. In all, it runs 
       1 higher secondary school, 9 secondary schools, 18 M. E. schools and 
       38 lower primary schools. 9918 students studied in these schools during
       the year.
     
  1. A computer training centre with 201 students.

  1. Special medical and eye camps (9779 patients treated) and health awareness camps in rural areas (nearly 25,226 people attended).

  1.  

    In commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami
    Vivekananda, translations of the book “Swami Vivekananda :
    The friend of all” in four local languages, viz. Khasi, Hajong,
    Garo and Assamese, were published.
