The ashrama was established in 1927.

Activities of the Math centre :

  1. A publication department, which publishes Gujarati books (6 new
    and 104 reprints brought out this year) and a Gujarati monthly
    journal, Sri Ramakrishna Jyot (23rd year with 3694 subscribers).

  1. A free library and a reading room with 39,514 books and 283
    newspapers and periodicals.

  1. A charitable dispensary with ayurvedic, homoeopathic and eye
    sections, as well as a physiotherapy centre with special
    facilities for the treatment of cerebral palsy children. Total
    77,680 cases were treated and 2895 eye-patients were operated
    on in eye-camps during the year. A mobile medical unit which
    treated 2869 patients from 15 villages.

  1. A students’ Home with 16 boys.

  1. A cultural unit, named Vivekananda Institute of Value Education and
    Culture (VIVEC), which conducted retreats, career guidance seminars,
    and programmes like value education classes, summer camps, yoga
    classes, competitions for students and teachers. 10,950 people were benefited.

  1. A school of languages, where Bengali, English, French and
    Sanskrit are taught, had 188 students.

  1. Special programmes were conducted in jails to impart value
    education to the inmates.

  1. Rural development work by way of conducting free medical camps
    (general and eye), free tailoring and embroidery classes (95 women),
    balak sanghas (135 children), and welfare activities like distributing
    food and educational aids to poor students, ration kits, blankets and
    and so on to the needy.

  1. A permanent exhibition depicting Indian culture, and the lives of
    Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Sarada Devi.

  1. Regular worship and fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan, religious
    discourses and lectures in and outside the ashrama (185 this
    year), retreats and seminars.

  1. Celebration of the birth anniversaries of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy
    Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other spiritual
    luminaries, as also festivals like Kali Puja, Ramnavami,
    Janmashtami, Shivaratri, Christmas Eve, etc.
