Started in 1897 by Swami Akhandananda (a monastic disciple
of Sri Ramakrishna), this is the oldest centre of the Ramakrishna
Mission.
Activities of the Mission centre :
A high school with 604 boys.
Three units of junior basic school with 407 boys and 164 girls.
A residential junior basic teachers’ training institute.
Two hostels with 72 students.
Eight free coaching centres with 690 students.
Six libraries with reading rooms: 10,724 books, and 20
periodicals and newspapers.
A charitable allopathic-cum-homoeopathic dispensary, which
treated 16,400 cases this year.
A mobile medical unit, which treated 6390 cases.
Welfare work by way of distribution of milk, clothes, blankets, etc and providing pecuniary, medical and educational aids to the needy.
Religious activities: Daily worship and observance of the
birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna and other spiritual luminaries.
Activities of the City/Town/Sub centre :
A students’ home with 8 college students.
Daily prayers and weekly religious classes.
A library with 1539 books and 2 periodicals.
